Luigi Bobbio Centre

In 2019, the Department of Cultures, Politics and Society (CPS) created the Centre for Public and Applied Social Research "Luigi Bobbio", with the aim of valorizing knowledge and results of its scientific activities, bringing academic research and community (in all its socio-cultural-economic and political aspects) in communication and collaboration.

The Centre was launched thanks to the recognition of the Department CPS as a structure of excellence for the five-year period 2018-2022 and subsequently acquired its autonomy and financial sustainability. It aims to position itself among the most recognized national and international centres for the production and dissemination of cutting-edge knowledge.
The specificity of the Centre in the Italian context lies mainly in its function as an incubator for research and advanced teaching projects, carried out according to an approach oriented to the interests of the stakeholders and in accordance with the ethics of public service.

The objectives of the Centre are the following:

  • to respond to the demands that institutions, the world of work and civil society are making of Italian universities today;
  • to actively participate in the production of a public agenda of problems and priorities, thanks to the wealth of theoretical knowledge already produced;
  • to stimulate the formation of working groups between academic and non-academic actors able to work on path-breaking research.

The Centre's main objective is therefore to cooperate with institutions and civil society to promote studies and research that have an applied value in relation to decision-making processes of collective relevance and public discussion of social problems.
