Third Mission and Social Impact Committee

The Third Mission and Social Impact Committee of the CPS Department meets periodically, in accordance with the deadlines set by the University and the Department, and at least three times a year. The Committee aims to promote and coordinate initiatives concerning stakeholder-oriented research, public engagement, the dissemination of scientific knowledge, and the enhancement of the social impact of the Department’s activities.

Among its responsibilities, the Committee issues Departmental calls for funding public engagement initiatives. Additionally, it collaborates closely with the University’s Public Engagement Committee "Agorà Scienza", by disseminating its activities and facilitating their implementation at the departmental level.

The Committee is chaired by the Vice-Director for Third Mission and Social Impact, Prof. Alberto Gherardini, and includes the Delegate for “Spazio Pubblico” initiative, Prof. Marco Mariano, as well as representatives from the academic and research staff, technical-administrative personnel, and temporary affiliates.

To translate the guidelines emerging from discussions into concrete actions, the Committee relies on thematic working groups. These groups, coordinated by Committee members and composed of CPS Department colleagues, are as follows:

  1. CPS-Social Impact Group
Coordinated by Dr Valeria Cappellato. This group aims to enhance the social impact of teaching and research at CPS by strengthening relationships with Third Sector organisations operating in the local area.
  2. Sfida-CPS Group
Coordinated by Prof. Stefania Ravazzi. This group collaborates with the Luigi Bobbio Centre for Public and Applied Social Research to engage with local and regional policymakers and key stakeholders, addressing challenges relevant to local socio-economic development.
  3. “Spazio Pubblico CPS” Group
Coordinated by Prof. Marco Mariano. This group is responsible for the planning and organisation of institutional public engagement events, aimed at non-academic audiences and focusing on socially significant topics.
  4. Communication and Dissemination Group
(Coordinator to be defined). This group seeks to enhance external communication tools and promote the dissemination of the researches, third mission, and social impact initiatives carried out by the CPS Department.

The Committee is founded on strong collaboration between academic and technical-administrative staff, with the objective of strengthening the role of the CPS Department within the social and territorial context, highlighting the contribution of research and teaching to collective well-being.
