Department of Excellence

Project

The Department of Cultures, Politics and Society (CPS) was one of the largest departments at the University of Torino to be recognized by MIUR as a "Department of Excellence" for the five-year period 2018-2022.

As part of the Excellence Project, CPS established the "Luigi Bobbio" Centre for Public and Applied Social Research (CLB), which acts as an incubator for actor-oriented advanced research and teaching projects, offering its expertise to understanding change processes.

The actions of the Excellence Project 2018-2022

Interdisciplinarity

CPS can boast the presence of complementary disciplines. Thanks to the contribution of the Excellence Project, the interdisciplinary character of CPS has been enriched and oriented towards public engagement and the involvement of local stakeholders through the establishment of the CODER Laboratory for Decision Making and the Study of Public Opinion and the strengthening of the CLOSER Interdepartmental Centre - Center for Laboratory Simulation and Experimental Research.

Integrated teaching activities between internationalization and the development of soft skills

The department's activities aim to valorize the results of research in education and return the results to the community through

  • Expanding opportunities for internships and offering specific training in soft skills development (UniToSkillCase);
  • Synergizing with and strengthening workforce orientation tools (Atlante delle professioni);
  • Providing highly qualified training (levels II and III) through the contribution of visiting professors and researchers;
  • Supporting faculty and student mobility.

Integrating research, third mission, knowledge transfer, and public engagement
The CPS department has contributed to the direction of public and professional debate through its research groups and initiatives, particularly through the production of "Blue papers" and "Working papers" on strategic challenges for culture, policy, and society. By expanding and strengthening existing relationships in this area, CPS has built a dense network of applied research and third mission collaborations with institutions, public and private entities, associations, and the working world.
